Are You Overpacked?

I was about to depart on a trip. We would be covering 4 countries. In addition to checked bags, I had a large backpack as my carry on.

I saw a Media post that stood out, so I stopped to read it.

There was a cartoon drawing of a man walking with a huge pack on his back with many extra items tied on or hanging off. All I could see of the man were the bottom of his legs and his feet from behind this massive pack.

The article went on to talk about this hiker's experience of packing too many items, as most inexperienced hikers do she pointed out.

But then it continued to express the root of this
overpacking was fear.

Fear that they'd get too cold, so they brought extra clothes. Fear that they'd not find food, so they brought too many snacks. And the list went on. Then being weighed down by the heaviness, the stress and pain it caused creates attitudes and this was often what people would see from the outside. This summarized at the end with an essence of shedding those fears, one by one, leaving them in the paths behind, and becoming freed to be your real self.

As I read this article, I realized that there are even deeper spiritual implications. What fears do we carry because we haven't turned them over to faith, even though we know we should?

In the trueness of faith there is no fear.
When God gives His word, we don't need to lug around a "Plan B". Drop the fear, embrace the faith. He knows what is to come and what we have need of, and He has got you.

It takes experiencing Him at his word to better embrace what we need to do and what we leave to Him. And not every journey is the same.

Sometimes He says, take your money belt and your cloke; sometimes He says "leave them behind" - trust Him, even if it doesn't seem to make sense. Learn how to hear Him and trust Him.

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. "

We can lay our burdens upon Him for He cares for us (from 1 Peter 5:7)

And then we can pack just what we need to travel light, in the light of His great grace.

Not growing up in a Christian home, I learned according to the ways of the world and was not discouraged from seeking after all the world had to offer. With an outgoing personality and a badly damaged heart I went about seeking meaning in the world, something that went more than skin deep, something that would last.
I sought it in any angle, some that the world would consider positive, some the world would consider negative, and a variety in between. But in the end, it was all striving after the wind. I remained empty after each newness faded. I gave up thinking that there was anything that could fulfill and I died inside. I muddled through life with a smile on my face and a bounce in my step, while inside I was far removed from such a vibrant state. I figured I just needed to 'get through' and make whatever difference I could along the way, for it seemed not to matter anyway.
    THEN...
On an unexpected day when I was 26 years old, I met Christ.
A person living true to the calling God gave to him spoke simply about the state of my life with specific examples as if he knew all about me - I had never met this person before. It broke me and all I could do was cry. The words he spoke were by the direct leading of the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of God, that can only be known through the door that is Christ Jesus.
That day this man served as a Human Interface to me knowing Christ, and in such, to my freedom.
I came out of the death that I walked in and was made new.

I now live to be that Human Interface of FREEDOM to others by the leading of the Holy Spirit, seeking to live by the word of God, not compromising to the ways of the world. I've tried the world, and in it is nothing that fulfills. I've tried the Lord that is the Almighty God, and in Him is fullness of life and peace that surpasses all understanding.

I am FREEDOM HI, you can be too.
